Frequently asked questions

Taking that first step into a rehearsal room can feel daunting, but we promise a warm welcome from the moment you walk through the door. Here are the answers to the questions we get asked most often by new singers.

Do I need to audition to join?

No, not at all! There are absolutely no auditions at Village Voices. You don't need a trained singing voice or any past choir experience—just a willingness to join in and have fun. 😃

Do I need to be able to read sheet music?

You do not need to read music. We learn our songs together step-by-step during rehearsals, so you can pick them up naturally by ear with plenty of guidance and support.

What happens during a rehearsal?

Every session includes a friendly welcome, gentle vocal warm-ups, learning uplifting songs together, a break for a warm cuppa and a chat, and going home with a big smile on your face.

What style of songs do you sing?

We enjoy a wonderful variety of music, ranging from contemporary pop hits and classic choral pieces to beloved show tunes from the musicals, lively fun numbers, and emotional ballads.

What should I bring to my first rehearsal?

Just bring yourself! You might like to bring a bottle of water and a folder or pencil, but there is no special equipment needed. We provide all the song sheets and a welcoming cuppa.

Can I just drop in or should I contact you first?

Both options work brilliantly! You are always welcome to pop along to a rehearsal for a taster session, or send us a message beforehand so we can keep an eye out to greet you.

Ready to come and sing with us?

Whether you are an experienced vocalist or have only ever sung in the shower, we would love to welcome you to Village Voices in Great Wakering. Get in touch today to find out about our next rehearsal.
