Songs of the Musicals – A Wonderful Evening at St Nicholas Church
Saturday 3rd October 2026
The Village Voices, Great Wakering were delighted to be part of a wonderful evening of music and community spirit at St Nicholas Church, Great Wakering, for Songs of the Musicals.
A great crowd of supporters, friends and local residents came along and really entered into the spirit of the evening, enjoying a fantastic selection of well-known songs from the world of musical theatre.
The evening followed the programme advertised on the event poster, with a varied set-list including Singing in the Rain, Flash Bang Wallop, Money, Money, Money, songs from Titanic, Under the Sea, The World Above and Peace Prayer.
We were especially pleased to welcome Pauline Alderton of Goldies Sing & Smile, who led everyone in songs from a wide range of shows. Her enthusiasm and encouragement helped get everyone singing and created a wonderfully relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
The Village Voices, Great Wakering were delighted to join in and share the evening with the audience. It was lovely to see so many people singing together and enjoying the music.
As well as being a great night of entertainment, the event had an important purpose – raising much-needed funds for St Nicholas Church, helping to support its continued work within the local community.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, sang with us and supported the evening. It was a fantastic celebration of musical theatre, singing, friendship and community – and another lovely opportunity for The Village Voices to be involved in an event at the heart of Great Wakering.

Celebrating 150 Years of The Old School – A Wonderful Community Morning
The Village Voices, Great Wakering, were delighted to be part of the community spirit at a special Coffee Morning held at The Community Centre, The Old School, Great Wakering, on Saturday 19 September.
The event celebrated an incredible 150 years of The Old School, which first opened its doors in 1876. Visitors were able to look back through the building's fascinating history, with a wonderful display of old photographs, memorabilia and memories from across the years.
There was certainly plenty to talk about! The display included a fascinating photograph of the staff of Great Wakering Board School from 1898, giving visitors a glimpse into the people and community connected with the building over a century ago.
The Village Voices, Great Wakering were pleased to support the event and take the opportunity to meet and chat with so many local people.
It was a particularly enjoyable morning for making numerous new contacts and catching up with people from across the village. Conversations about the history of Great Wakering, community groups and local activities provided plenty of interest – and perhaps a few ideas for future connections!
And, of course, no community coffee morning would be complete without tea, coffee and cake! āš° There was plenty of time to sit, chat and enjoy the friendly atmosphere while discovering more about the fascinating history of our Community Centre.
The Village Voices are proud to be one of the many community groups that use The Old School / Community Centre, and we look forward to continuing to play our part in the life of Great Wakering.
